 PTR LEAKED AUDIO

PTR, or the People’s Television Network, is a government-owned television network in the Philippines.

PTR Audio Scandals

In 2021, an audio clip surfaced online allegedly containing the voices of PTR executives discussing the network’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recording suggested that the executives were prioritizing ratings over factual reporting, and that they were willing to downplay the severity of the pandemic to boost viewership.
The leaked audio drew criticism from both the public and the government.
The Department of Health, which was mentioned in the recording, called for an investigation into PTR’s COVID-19 coverage.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines also condemned PTR’s alleged prioritization of ratings over responsible journalism.
This was not the first time that PTR had been involved in a leaked audio scandal. In 2018, an audio recording surfaced of PTR employees allegedly discussing the manipulation of ratings data.
The employees were reportedly caught discussing ways to inflate PTR’s viewership numbers to attract advertisers.
The leaked audio scandals have raised questions about the integrity of PTR and its commitment to responsible journalism.
